We were originally formed in 1947 by a group of enthusiastic painters who met in the ‘Old Canteen’ at one end of Banstead High Street. We now meet once a month in the Mead Room of the Banstead Community Hall, and we are run by an annually elected Committee.
The monthly meetings take the form of appraisals of members’ work by a visiting artist. The Group also provides an opportunity for socialising and information sharing with other members. Activities include demonstrations, talks, workshops, occasional visits to art exhibitions of special interest, attendance at local events, outdoor painting sessions at local venues and an annual painting holiday.
Annually, in October, we put on an exhibition of our members' original work. This event, held in the Banstead Community Hall, is popular and well attended. The art work is varied and includes watercolour, oil, pastel and mixed media. Visitors are able to vote for their favourite piece in the exhibition.
Members are also encouraged to produce cards for sale at the Annual Exhibition and throughout the year.
