 About Us

Banstead Art Group was originally formed in 1947, by a group of enthusiastic painters who met in the ‘Old Canteen’ at one end of Banstead High Street. We are now a group of 50-plus members and we meet once a month at the Banstead Community Hall.

Members are encouraged to bring an Artwork along to the monthly meetings. These meetings take the form of group-self appraisals or appraisals with a professional visiting artist. The Group also provides an opportunity for socialising and information sharing with other members.

New for 2022, we are now running quarterly workshop with visiting professional artists. These workshops will cover a range of mediums including watercolour and oil painting. These will run on Saturday mornings and will be held in the main hall at the Banstead Community Centre. More information about the workshops can be found here

As a group we also take part in a number of local events including the Banstead Village May Fayre and Banstead Village Fair in July.

In October, we hold an annual exhibition to show our members' original work. This event, held in the Banstead Community Hall, is popular and well attended. The art on show includes watercolour, oil, pastel and mixed media. Visitors can vote for their favourite piece in the exhibition. More information about the exhibition can be found here

BAG members are also encouraged to produce greetings cards for sale at the Annual Exhibition and throughout the year.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us during our 2024 Exhibition.

This year, Banstead Art Group celebrates 77 years of showcasing our member’s artworks at our annual exhibition. It was great to see that we had over 450 Visitors and we would like to thank everyone who came along and helped us out during the show.

We invite our members to enter up to 8 framed paintings each. This is a great opportunity for our artists to showcase different aspects of their practice. This year, we had over 180 paintings, drawings and media works on display.  We also had browsers of unframed work and a number of cards which, as always, were very popular! By the end of the three days, we had sold a total of 31 paintings.

As we have in previous years, we asked members of the public to vote for their favourite painting and this year’s winner was

Helen Smart with ‘Toffee’

Look out for this painting on our adverts for next year exhibition.

Second place was Louise Collins with ‘Walking in a Winter Wonderland’

Third place was Eric Moore with ‘Wednesdays’

 Well done everyone.

Over the summer months we asked our members, to let their inspiration run riot and paint an artist palette. Inspired by the Painted Palette Tree at Florence Griswold Museum in Connecticut, we decided to bring our own version of the challenge to the UK.

We had all of the Palettes on display at the exhibition and held a silent auction. We raised a total of £632 and all proceeds will be donated to local charities.
